Due to changed legislation and a greater focus on preventing explosive materials from falling into the wrong hands, the Greater Stockholm Fire Department (SSBF) is putting even more effort into its preventive work. We are therefore looking for more employees who want to work with us for a safer and more secure society.
The Risk Management Department
The department's employees collectively contribute to preventing fires and accidents and to saving lives, property, and the environment. The department works with issues related to risk management and accident prevention in two time perspectives: today (the city/society we have) and tomorrow (the city/society being planned).
Mainly, the department works with:
- Regulatory enforcement in the form of supervision according to the Act on Protection Against Accidents (LSO) and the Act on Flammable and Explosive Goods (LBE).
- Regulatory enforcement in the form of permit assessments according to LBE.
- Regulatory enforcement in the form of chimney sweeping and fire protection inspections.
- Accident investigations after interventions.
- Support to member municipalities and individuals in the area of accident protection.
- Support to member municipalities and other authorities in planning, construction, and other permit matters.
Your Role
In the unit for flammable and explosive goods, you will work to prevent fires and other accidents from occurring and to ensure that we limit the damage if a fire or an accident should occur. We mainly do this by:
- Conducting permit assessments in accordance with the Act on Flammable and Explosive Goods and following up on compliance with the law through supervision (LBE).
- Checking compliance with the Act on Protection Against Accidents through supervision (LSO).
- Cooperation with other authorities and organizations in the field.
- Informing, advising, and supporting the public, municipalities, and other actors and organizations, as well as responding to consultations from, for example, municipalities, county administrative boards, and police on issues related to accidents, fire, and safety.
Over the years, there has also been an increased focus on preventive work against unauthorized handling of especially explosive goods. In this area, there is constant development, and SSBF is one of the parties driving this locally, regionally, and nationally in various collaborative forms.
Who are you?
We are looking for both engineers and fire inspectors who have a focus on preventive fire protection, accident or safety management, risk management, or similar areas that SSBF deems relevant for the work. For the position, it is also interesting if you have experience in working with regulatory requirements, designing fire or risk measures, and conducting inspections.
We are looking for someone who wants to contribute to a safer society. You are self-driven, responsible, and work purposefully with high ambition. You plan and organize your work efficiently and have a strong safety awareness. As a person, you are outgoing, development-oriented, and have good self-awareness and judgment. You collaborate well both internally and externally and perform your work carefully, structured, and with a clear understanding of the organization's goals.
We Offer
The Greater Stockholm Fire Department offers a respectful, open, professional, and reliable culture where community is strong. We have high ambitions and a fast pace of development. All our employees contribute to creating a safer society. We dare to try new ideas and to change and develop over time. All employees are covered by a collective agreement, which means security for you. We also offer good opportunities for training and wellness during working hours, the possibility of flexible working hours, and vacation exchange. Work is mostly done on-site, but there is room for some remote work if the job allows.
Requirements
The position requires that you have:
- Education as a fire engineer or MSB's training in accident protection, or other education or experience that SSBF deems relevant for the position.
- Driver's license with at least B category.
- Very good knowledge of Swedish in speech and writing.
- Good knowledge of the Microsoft Office package.
Meritorious
It is meritorious to have previous work experience in, or relevant education within, the LBE area or building technical fire protection as well as requirements management against regulations. It is also meritorious to have experience in, or relevant education within, permit assessments or supervisory work in other authority areas.
Conditions
The position is a permanent full-time employment, where a probationary period may apply after assessment. We apply competency-based recruitment. Employment conditions are regulated according to the General Terms and Conditions, AB. The workplace is at Johannes Fire Station or at one of our fire stations deemed possible.
As a socially important actor, we value high security and confidentiality awareness. Therefore, in some cases, we conduct a security review according to the Security Protection Act (2018:585) before a decision on employment. If you start with us, you will also be placed in a war position; this is our way of ensuring that both you and we can continue to make a difference for society, even in heightened preparedness and war.
Who are we?
The Greater Stockholm Fire Department is a municipal association where eleven municipalities cooperate: Danderyd, Lidingö, Nacka, Solna, Stockholm, Sundbyberg, Täby, Vallentuna, Vaxholm, Värmdö, and Österåker. The association's management and support functions are located at Johannes Fire Station in central Stockholm.
The Greater Stockholm Fire Department is responsible for the safety of 1.5 million people. Through cooperation agreements, we are responsible for alarms and management of rescue operations in a total of 32 municipalities in Uppland, Västmanland, parts of Södermanland, and Gotland.
With unique expertise, long experience, and care, we carry out preventive work within potential risk categories, as well as sharp interventions in acute situations – to create a safer society.
